About Me
About Me,
My passion for languages led me to study in the Department of English Language and Literature at Shendi University, followed by a Bachelor of Languages at the Open University of Sudan. My mind was opened to translation studies through my readings and my studies. I translated a doctoral thesis in history entitled “Prelude to the Mahdiyya: Peasants and Traders in the Shendi Region, 1821–1885” by Anders Bjørkelo, from English into Arabic, my first challenge in translation. This confirmed for me that translation was the career I wanted to pursue.
In Sudan, I worked for the independent newspaper Sudan Vision. I often conducted interviews and coverage in Arabic and then translated them into English and vice-versa. I also wrote a daily column for the same paper until I left Sudan in 2014. This job taught me how to meet deadlines and kept me in touch with news worldwide in the areas of politics, economics and humanitarian issues.
I recently obtained a Master of Arts in Specialized Translation, English-Arabic in the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting at the University of Geneva, Switzerland.
I am also certified in community interpreting and intercultural mediation Arabic <> English <> French in Switzerland.
To my credit, I work well under pressure without showing stress, alone or on a team. I can work independently as well as in a group. I know both how to initiate ideas and to follow work instructions and enjoy interacting with colleagues. I am also flexible and welcome criticism, as I’m a curious and open-minded person. I really love the two-way street of learning and sharing knowledge. I have a proficient level in the use of CAT tools such as SDL Trados, and Microsoft Studio.
